Although we think the diamond mounting for this ring is pretty amazing, the real gem, quite literally, in this design is the cushion cut Ceylon blue sapphire at the center. Not only is the color a gorgeous, delightful pastel cornflower blue with subtle flashes of periwinkle, this sapphire is a very hard-to-find 8+mm cushion cut!! We search high and low for stones like this but they only come around once in a great while. The sapphire has one of those colors that look amazing in both bright and dim light. It never appears too pale, even in sunlight, and it never appears dark, even in dim light. Cushion cuts are among the most prized shapes in sapphire and anything 8mm and up is very unusual. We have graded the sapphire with a VS2 clarity grade because the sapphire does have a tiny birthmark (less than 2mm) that is sometimes faintly noticeable in brighter light. To us, the rarity of the gem (the size, shape and color) more than compensate for the small inclusion and we felt that this sapphire is still a great find! The diamond halo setting, with the 20 fine diamonds that surround the sapphire and 7 on each side of the band, helps draw the eyes right to the focal point. The setting has an open basket design which allows light to pass through and reflect from the sapphire. From a practical standpoint, this allows the ring to be cleaned easily and you will be able to keep the beautiful ring looking amazing for a lifetime.
