Feel Secure in your purchase with clear, detailed documentation
All purchases include a personalized Certificate of Authenticity & Insurance Replacement Value, prepared and signed by our in-house Graduate Gemologist (GIA).
The Certificate includes photographs and a detailed description of the jewelry, including gemstone type, origin and treatment when known or applicable, gemstone and diamond weights and quality, precious-metal type and weight, measurements and condition. It also provides an Estimated Retail Replacement Value, effective as of the date shown, for insurance purposes.
Why We Do Not Call It an Appraisal
We believe clear and accurate terminology matters. Although some jewelry sellers describe company-prepared valuation documents as appraisals, we believe that wording can give customers the impression that the valuation was prepared independently by a third party. Because our document is prepared by MySapphireSource, the seller of the jewelry, we do not represent it as an appraisal. Instead, we provide a detailed Certificate that includes our carefully determined estimate of the current retail cost to replace the item with one of comparable gemstone quality, precious-metal content, design and workmanship.
A GIA Graduate Gemologist has extensive training in identifying and evaluating diamonds, colored gemstones and jewelry. However, GIA does not certify appraisers, and our document is not represented as an independent third-party appraisal.
Using Your Certificate for Insurance
In many cases, our Certificate together with your MySapphireSource receipt should provide the detailed description, proof of purchase and current value needed to insure your jewelry. Insurers may accept a detailed receipt, appraisal or other evaluation showing a current value, although individual requirements can vary.
We recommend submitting both documents to your insurance agent and keeping copies in a secure location. If your insurer specifically requires an independent appraisal, you will need to obtain one from an independent qualified jewelry appraiser.
